On July 12th at approximately 9:45 AM, an employee working in the park discovered a suspicious bag that appeared to have wires protruding from it just inside the entrance of the park at 15th Avenue East and East Highland Drive. The employee called 911 to report the item. Officers arrived and requested Arson and Bomb Squad detectives to respond. The streets leading into the park were shut down while this incident was going on. The detectives then used the tools available to them (robot, camera) to investigate the bag remotely and safely and the bag was rendered harmless. The park was reopened to visitors a short time later.
