On July 16th at approximately 11:46 p.m. officers responded to a 911 call of a fight disturbance involving a gun in the 1200 block of East Jefferson Street. While enroute to the call additional 911 calls came in reporting shots fired. The involved parties were gone upon the officers’ arrival.
Preliminary investigation indicates that there was some sort of fight disturbance between an unknown number of subjects in the street. Some of those involved eventually made their way into a nearby restaurant. After that group entered the restaurant, the owner locked the door, not letting anybody else inside. Apparently the opposing group stayed in the area. When the intended victim tried to leave the restaurant a male suspect who was possibly in the opposing group outside fired a gun at him, missing the intended victim and hitting an innocent bystander.
The victim bystander, a 41-year-old male, was struck in the calf by the gunfire. The victim was not involved in the disturbance. SFD medics transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
A suspect also shot a car in the parking lot several times apparently believing it to be the (intended) victim’s car. Officers impounded the vehicle and it was subsequently taken to the evidence garage for processing. It is unknown if there was more than one shooter. The suspect(s) then fled the scene and remain at large.
Gang Unit detectives are actively investigating this incident.
