Officer-involved shooting in Wedgewood

On August 16th, at approximately 8:15 PM, North Precinct officers responded to a grocery store in the 8400 Block of  35th Avenue NE looking for a white male adult suspect wanted in a domestic violence incident that occurred the night before.  Officers had attempted to locate the suspect at the same location immediately following the domestic violence incident, but did not locate him.  Officers learned that the suspect was at the store on the evening of the 16th, and attempted to contact him inside the store.  The suspect fought with the officers, and at some point during the struggle reached into his waistband and pulled out a handgun.  One of the officers was forced to draw his weapon and fire at the suspect, striking him.  The Seattle Fire Department was immediately summoned and the suspect was rushed to Harborview Medical Center via Medics.  Homicide and CSI detectives responded to the scene to begin their investigation of an officer-involved shooting.  None of the officers were injured during this encounter.  This information is preliminary and subject to change.  There will be additional information on this investigation released tomorrow.
