Horse Pursuit! Car prowler chased down by Mounted Patrol, witnesses

Straight out of a Western….on August 19th, at about 2:30 PM, a man observed a suspect breaking into a parked pickup in the 100 Block of Lenora Street.  The witness stated he saw the suspect smash the driver’s side window and remove items from inside.  Once the suspect noticed the witness watching him, he took off running with the items southbound through an alley.  The witness also gave chase.  Coincidentally, a Mounted Patrol officer astride her horse  was on routine patrol riding northbound in the same alley.  The witness yelled to the officer that the suspect had just broken into a car.  The officer yelled for the suspect to stop, but he ignored the order.  The officer and the witness continued to chase after the suspect. The officer notified dispatch of  the incident and continued to provide updates as additional officers responded.  The suspect ran inside a parking garage in the 1900 Block of 3rd Avenue.  Additional witnesses inside the parking garage pointed out that the suspect had run in and then out of the garage and was now running southbound on 3rd.  The suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter. He was postively identified by the witness.    During a check of the garage, it appeared the suspect attempted to change his appearance by removing his jacket, baseball cap and sunglasses.  Two cell phones and a charger were also recovered.  The Mounted Patrol officer retrived these items and returned them to the owner of the vehicle, who had now returned to his truck.  The victim identified the iPhone and charger as his and stated that he had just parked his truck moments before the car prowl.  The 39 year old suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for a number of charges, including Theft (CarProwl), Obstructing, and  Possess Burglary Tools.
