Early morning shooting near Taylor and Denny

On August 22nd, at approximately 2:23 AM, West Precinct officers reported hearing several gunshots near Taylor Avenue North and Denny Street.  Several officers began responding in that direction in an attempt to locate the source of the shots.  Two minutes later, a 911 call came in from the 200 Block of Taylor Avenue North stating that a bullet had just come through a lobby window.  Officers arrived and noticed a large crowd in the parking lot across the street from that location.  In the crowd were two males, ages 18 and 19, who were the victims of gunshot wounds.  They were attempting to leave the area.  A large number of  witnesses were detained by the responding officers in an attempt to find out what had occurred.  Medics were summoned to treat the victims.  One victim had a gunshot wound to his upper leg, and the other male had a gunshot wound to his back.  The injuries were not considered life-threatening, and both victims were transported to the hospital.

During the investigation it was determined that the disturbance originally began when a private party was ending and the crowd was leaving the venue.  As the crowd was leaving, several members of the crowd began arguing and someone fired several shots, striking the two victims.  Officers did locate shell casings at the scene.  Witnesses stated that they believe the suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of the police.  This remains an active and on going investigation.
