Shots fired in Belltown area

On 9/12/10,  at approximately 1:08 a.m., officers working the Belltown Safe Streets detail heard one gun shot in the area of 1st Ave/Lenora St.  As officers began to walk towards the location where the shot was fired, a witness contacted them.  This witness stated that he observed a male, wearing black clothing fire one round from his handgun into the air near the alley in the 100 blk. of Lenora St. After firing the handgun, the witness observed the suspect place the handgun back into his waistband and walk northbound on 1st Ave.

The witness pointed out the suspect to officers as the suspect walked northbound on the westside of 1st Ave. towards Blanchard St.  The suspect was walking with another subject.  Gang unit detectives and officers contacted the two suspects on the NW corner of 1st and Blanchard St.  Upon contact it was discovered that both suspects were armed with .40 caliber handguns. Each suspect also had a valid CCW permit.

The witness identified the suspect who had fired the handgun into the air.  The suspect was taken into custody.  Officers located a spent casing in the alleyway, 100 blk. of Lenora St.

The suspect, a 27-year-old man was booked into King County Jail for discharging a firearm.
