On October 20th, at approximately 12:30 AM, Seattle Police Gang detectives had information that a felony warrant suspect wanted for questioning in two recent shootings was at a location in South Seattle. Detectives also received information that the suspect was driving a 1991 black Mercedes and might possibly be armed with a handgun. Detectives drove to that address and saw the Mercedes parked outside. Detectives then set up surveillence on the car and waited for the suspect to return to it. At approximately 1:15 AM, detectives saw the suspect get into the car and drive off. Detectives were able to follow the suspect as they called for marked police units to respond to the area for a traffic stop. At approximately 1:20 AM, several marked Seattle Police cars pulled in behind the Mercedes and attempted to stop the suspect with their full emergency equipment of lights and sirens near 43 Place South and South 116th Street. Instead of pulling over, the suspect immediately accelerated in an attempt to get away. The suspect eventually made it to southbound I-5, where he continued to accelerate away from police. Several neighboring agencies, including the Washington State Patrol, King County Sheriff’s Department, and Tukwila Police assisted on the call. The suspect continued south on the freeway, until he reached the South 320th Street exit where he drove eastbound before getting back onto the freeway northbound. The suspect continued at a high rate of speed. The Mercedes eventually got off I-5 near SouthCenter Mall and drove on the side streets. The car was abandoned near an apartment complex in the 15700 Block of 39th Place South, Tukwila. At that point the driver and a passenger got out of the car and fled on foot. Officers in the area immediately set up containment and a K-9 unit responded. The K-9 tracked eastbound from the car through the apartment complex. While the track was going on, an officer on containment observed the suspect attempting to walk out of the containment area. The officer immediately stopped the suspect and took him into custody. Gang detectives took custody of the suspect. The 26 year old male was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Eluding and his outstanding warrants (Department of Corrections Escape, Assault -Domestic Violence, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Driving while License Suspended 1st Deg.) The passenger was not located. Gang detectives will be responsible for this continuing investigation.
