On November 7th at approximately 12:50 a.m. officers responded to a grocery store in the 1400 block of Broadway Avenue to investigate a strong-arm robbery. Investigation indicates that the adult male suspect had entered the store and selected various items of merchandise. He then went to the self-checkout scanner and scanned one of the items in but put the rest of the items in his bag without scanning them in. The clerk saw what he was doing and asked him if he needed any help. The suspect said that he did not, so the clerk followed up by asking if the suspect could prove that he had paid for all of the items in his bag. The suspect became angry, telling the clerk that he did not need a receipt.
The suspect then punched the clerk in the head with a closed fist, knocking her to the ground. He ran toward the door with the merchandise but dropped the bag just before he left the store.
The clerk, a 27-year-old female, was not seriously injured, though she did have a split lip. SFD responded to the store to evaluate and treat the victim, who did not require additional medical attention.
The suspect, who remains at large, is described as a black male in his 30’s to 40’s, 6 feet tall, 250 lbs., with a muscular build.
