Vehicle vs pedestrian fatality

On 2/11/11, at approximately 9:45 a.m., a female pedestrian, in her late 70’s was walking E/B in the crosswalk on S.Orcas at M.L. King Jr. Way S., According to witnesses the pedestrian traffic light was red and the northbound traffic light was green.

The pedestrian was at the midpoint of the intersection when she attempted to run to the S.E. curb but was struck by a mini-van traveling north bound in the curb lane.

Seattle Fire Department Ladder Unit #12 (SFD) and Medic 28 arrived at the same time.  Officers immediately set up traffic control while SFD tended to the pedestrian.  SFD requested a blood run and the pedestrian was transported to Harborview where she died from her injuries.

A Drug Recognition officer responded to the scene and evaluated the driver. The adult female driver did not display any signs of impairment. She was released at the scene.
