Officers spend a day with local youth

On April 16th, from 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., officers and detectives attended the 21st annual Youth and Law Forum at First AME Church in Seattle. The event was sponsored in part by Loren Miller Bar Association, Alpha Omicon Boule’, Zeta Phi Beta, Lambda Alpha Zeta Chapter, Blacks in Government-Southeast Chapter and First AME Church.

The event was well attended by local youths, ages 7 to 20-years-old, parents, police, judges, attorneys, and community members.

The day consisted of workshops on Bullying, Conflict Resolution, Forensics Lab( fingerprinting, evidence collection), Fatal Vision Goggles exercise (goggles worn by attendees to simulate various levels of intoxication, while preforming Field Sobriety Test) Donut Dialog for the High schoolers (youths and officers participated in a role reversal exercise), Martial Arts Demonstration by Mercer Island Martial Arts, and a demonstration featuring the bomb robot from SPD Bomb Squad.

The day was chock- full of learning, fun, food and mutual respect.
