Link light rail train/pedestrian fatality in South Seattle

On May 22nd, at approximately 12:50 AM, Seattle Police responded to a link light rail train/pedestrian collision that occurred near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and Renton Avenue South.  The female pedestrian had been walking down the tracks when she was struck by the train.  Seattle Fire Department arrived and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) also responded to the scene. The initial investigation showed that the pedestrian did not make any effort to move off of the tracks despite the train operator sounding the train’s warning horn repeatedly and applying maximum brakes.  TCIS detectives will handle the follow up investigation.
