On 6/8/11, at approximately 9:30 p.m., 3 males who were parked at the look-out park in the 2900 blk of 12th Ave S, noticed that an older white male was standing on the balcony of a home across the street, pointing a rifle at them. The men quickly left the area and called 911.
Officers arrived in the area and set up containment. South Anti Crime Team, SWAT and an on-duty Hostage Negotiator (HN) soon arrived on scene. The HN made contact with the occupants of the home and all parties came out under their own power.
The victims came by and positively identified the detained man as the person who was pointing the rifle at them. The suspect admitted to pointing the gun, but stated he was using the scope on the pellet gun to read license plates of vehicles he believed were involved in crimes at the park. He stated that he’d planned on giving that information to police. Officers recovered the rifle. The 65-year-old suspect provided a statement and was subsequently released at the scene.
