Man saved from drowning at Green Lake by witness

On July 4th, at approximately 7:45 PM, North Precinct officers and the Seattle Fire Department responded to reports of a man pulled unconscious from the water at the swimming area near the Green Lake Community Center.  The 32 year old male victim was apparently trying to swim to the dive platform when he encountered an unknown problem.  A 20 year old witness, who happened to be on the diving platform,  noticed the victim slipping under the water and apparently in need of assistance.  The witness dove into the water and grabbed the victim as he slipped toward the bottom of the lake.  The witness was able to pull the victim to the surface, and, with the assistance of another man, bring him to shore.  The victim was unconscious when he reached the shore, but regained consciousness a short time later.  The victim was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire and later transported to an area hospital for further examination.

Based on the location of the incident, witness statements, the depth of the water and the rate of the victim’s descent, it is unlikely that the victim would have been found in time had it not been for the quick intervention of the witness.
