Strong arm robbery downtown, witnesses help catch suspect

On October 17th, at approximately 4:37 pm, a woman had just left her work in the 1100 Block of 4th Avenue when an unknown suspect ran up and grabbed her purse, knocking her to the ground, somewhere between 4th and 3rd Avenue.   The suspect then fled on foot northbound on 3rd Avenue.

A witness to the crime was in his car and followed the suspect northbound on 3rd Avenue.  In the 1500 Block of 3rd Avenue, that witness and another unidentified person confronted the suspect and detained him until a West Precinct patrol sergeant driving by witnessed the disturbance in the street.  An off-duty Seattle Police officer, in uniform working at an off-duty assignment nearby, also ran to the disturbance and assisted in handcuffing the suspect.

The victim and witnesses were able to positively identitify the suspect.  The adult male was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.
