On November 6th, 2011 at approximately 1200 p.m., officers were dispatched to possible shots heard in the area of 23 Av S. / S. Dearborn St. Offices conducted an area check, however nothing was found. A few minutes later dispatch advised that a victim was dropped off at Swedish Cherry Hill located at 500 17 Av with a gunshot wound.
Officers arrived at Swedish Cherry Hill and spoke briefly with the victim who reported that he was shot near the intersection of MLK JR WY S/ S. Dearborn St. The victim reported that a light skinned black male with dread locks shot him. After the shooting the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle in an unknown direction.
Officers responded to the area and conducted a search for the shooting scene. Officers were unable to locate any evidence at the scene; however a witness came forward and provided a statement as to what they observed.
The witness observed the suspect at a store at 23 Av S. / S. Dearborn St. minutes before the shooting and again at the scene. The suspect had dread locks with dyed blond hair on the ends. It is unknown if the shooting at Rainier and McClellan and this incident are related. The 33-year-old victim was shot in the stomach, his condition is unknown.
