Citizen fatally shoots pitbull attacking another dog

On November 7th at approximately 4:08 p.m. officers responded to 911 calls of two dogs fighting and shots fired in the 10400 block of 67th Avenue South.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 30-year-old woman was in her front yard with her boxer when a pitbull that had been wandering through the neighborhood came by and began attacking the boxer.  The woman, her husband and others made numerous attempts to stop the attack using rocks and other yard implements to no avail.  With the boxer bleeding and obviously injured and fearing his wife was about to be attacked by the pitbull, the woman’s husband retrieved a handgun and shot the pitbull once, fatally wounding it and ending its attack.

The boxer sustained serious injuries and was subsequently transported to an animal hospital by its owner (the woman).  Animal Control officers responded to the scene and took custody of the pitbull.

None of the people involved in the incident were injured.  The husband was interviewed and released by investigating officers.

Officers located the owner of the pitbull.  He was interviewed and released pending further investigation.

Animal Control will be handling the active and on-going investigation.
