On December 5th at around 9:10 a.m., a South Precinct patrol officer was flagged down by a citizen in the 3000 block of Mt. Baker Blvd. The witness told the officer he just saw a youth brandish what appeared to be a firearm. The witness pointed out the male suspect who was walking up the south staircase to Franklin High School. The officer used his patrol vehicle’s PA system and ordered the suspect to stop. The suspect turned around, looked at the officer and then ran into the school. The officer ran into the school but lost the suspect. The officer contacted another student who was in the vicinity. He told the officer that he saw the gun but didn’t think it was real.
The officer identified the suspect through year book pictures. The 14-year-old male suspect was located in class and was placed into custody. The suspect admitted to having a BB pistol and led officers to the trashcan on the third floor of the school where he had disposed of it. The BB pistol was recovered and placed into evidence. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into YSC for Investigation of Dangerous Weapon on School Facilities.
