On January 15th, at approximately 8:10 pm, a woman left a restaurant in the 8100 Block of Rainier Avenue South. She was confronted by a suspect who demanded her purse. The victim refused to hand over her purse, so the suspect pulled out a handgun and pointed it at her. At that point, the woman handed over her purse and the suspect fled on foot. Other patrons in the restaurant learned of the robbery and followed the suspect. 911 was called, and South Precinct officers responded. Containment was set up by responding officers as the primary officer interviewed the victim. While interviewing the victim, the suspect emerged from in between the houses and he was taken into custody by officers. The victim was able to positively identify the suspect. Officers located the victim’s purse and the black handgun (which turned out to be a toy gun) along the route the suspect had run. The suspect was later booked into jail for Investigation of Robbery.
