On April 5th Seattle Police Officers Chapackdee and Cambronero held a “Living Room Conversation” at the Lake Washington apartments located in the 9000 block of Seward Park Avenue South from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Approximately 20 adults and 10 children attended.
The Lake Washington apartment complex has a culturally diverse tenant population including many immigrants. Interpreters were on hand to help facilitate the conversation. Officers discussed the importance of community involvement in effective policing and crime control. They encouraged the participants to report suspicious behavior and criminal activities to 911, talked about the fear of retaliation and encouraged everyone to build relationships, trust and partnership with their neighbors and local police officers.
The officers shared with the community members their personal experiences, both being immigrants to the United States themselves.
It was a productive meeting and rewarding to all who attended.
