On April 17th, just after 9:00 am, West Precinct officers responded to a 911 call in the 2700 Block of Third Avenue on a report of a 14 year old boy threatening to assault his mother with a knife. Officers arrived to the apartment building quickly and the woman was able to get out of the apartment unhurt. The suspect however, had barricaded himself inside the apartment. Officers attempted to coax the boy out, but he refused any offer from police. Because this was now a barricaded situation, SWAT was called to the scene, as well as police negotiators. Through a coordinated effort between patrol, SWAT and negotiators, officers were able to establish a dialogue with the young man and eventually convince him to surrender. The suspect was arrested and will eventually be booked into the Youth Services Center for Investigation of Domestic Violence Assault. Fortunately, no one was injured during this event.
