On April 28th at approximately 12:04 a.m. the “victim” called 911 to report that someone had stolen his 2009 Audi and left northbound on Swift Avenue South from South Warsaw Street. Multiple officers responded to the area and quickly located the Audi at Beacon Avenue South and South Graham Street.
Officers stopped the Audi and the two males on board were removed from the vehicle and interviewed. Officers quickly discovered that the front seat passenger was not only the registered owner of the vehicle, but the “victim” who had called 911.
Further investigation revealed that the “victim”, who was highly intoxicated, had called 911 to report his car stolen because he didn’t want his buddy, who the “victim” believed to be inebriated, driving his car. After calling 911 to report his car stolen, the “victim” got into the car with his buddy, who proceeded to drive them home.
Both occupants of the Audi ended up getting arrested.
The driver of the Audi was arrested and processed for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs (DUI). The “victim” was arrested for False Reporting and his Audi was impounded.
In the life of a police officer, sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.
