Man who assaulted woman and snatched her purse arrested

On May 9th at 12:50 p.m., the victim had just parked her car and was walking in the area of Belmont & Union, when she was confronted by a white male. The man ran up from behind the victim and attempted to grab her purse off her shoulder. The victim held onto her purse and the suspect began striking the back of her head with his fist.

The victim released her grip on the purse and the suspect ran off with it.  A witness chased after the suspect, but lost him near the QFC on Broadway. The witness took a few digital photos of the suspect from his cell phone. The victim added that just before being robbed, she was approached by a white female, claiming that she had been robbed and needed a ride.

The victim was attacked right after walking away from this female. Officers contacted the female and she stated that her boyfriend, had been with her, but she last saw him running off being chased by someone.

Robbery detectives presented the suspect in a photo montage to the witness and he positively identified him as the correct suspect.  Robbery detectives checked several possible locations for the suspect but he could not be located. A wanted robbery bulletin was distributed.

On June 1st at 2:00 p.m , a patrol officer located the suspect at 10th & E. Pine. He was taken into custody and transported to the Robbery office. The suspect was wearing the same backpack from the day of the robbery.

Detectives interviewed the suspect and he was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.
