Police responded to a report of a woman who had been shot in a Jack in the Box drive through. At approximately 10:50 p.m. officers responded to the 8500 block of Aurora Avenue North. Preliminary investigation indicates that four people (two men and two women all believed to be in their 20’s) were sitting in a Honda Civic when the suspect discharged his weapon.
The suspect was sitting on the passenger side of the rear seat and for reasons yet to be determined began manipulating a firearm. He negligently discharged a round into the back of the front passenger seat. The round passed through the seat and struck his girlfriend in the back (she was sitting in the front passenger seat). The round does not appear to have exited the victim’s body.
The other male was sitting in the back seat next to the suspect and the other female was sitting in the driver’s seat. Nobody else in the vehicle was injured.
SFD medics responded to the scene and transported the female victim to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Officers took the suspect into custody and transported him downtown to be interviewed by Homicide/Assault detectives. The gun was recovered and will be placed into evidence.
It does not appear at this time that there was any kind of disturbance or altercation prior to the discharge of the gun.
This remains an active and on-going investigation.
