Vehicle/Pedestrian Fatality Collision in South Seattle

A male pedestrian was struck and killed by a southbound motorist while crossing Rainier Avenue South tonight.  At approximately 8:24 p.m. officers responded to the 3100 block of Rainier Avenue South for reports of a vehicle/pedestrian collision.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a male pedestrian in his 50’s (wearing all dark clothing) was unlawfully crossing Rainier Avenue South mid-block from west to east when he was struck by a southbound driver in a pickup truck.

SFD medics responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to Harborview Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.

Officers evaluated the driver of the pickup truck, a man in his 70’s, for signs of impairment due to alcohol and/or drugs.  No impairment was detected.  The driver was interviewed and released from the scene.

No citations were issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in serious traffic collisions requiring extensive follow up investigation and collision reconstruction.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
