A man drove his PT Cruiser into a South Seattle apartment building this morning. He then thought it was a good idea to fight with responding officers. At approximately 9:30 this morning, officers responded to MLK Jr WY S and S. Walden St to a report of a vehicle into an apartment building. The driver freed himself and tried to flee the scene. Arriving officers contacted the driver and a struggle ensued as the man fought with them and refused to comply with their verbal commands.
According to witnesses, the driver and passenger had just left a business in the nearby area where the two were involved in a disturbance. The pair initially left the business but then returned where the driver/suspect assaulted two employees of the business because he thought they had called the police. The suspect in an attempt to flee the area after the assault collided into the apartment building.
The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The adult male passenger was trapped inside the vehicle and was subsequently extricated by Seattle Fire. He was transported to Harborview by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
There were no other reported injuries. The suspect/driver was arrested and transported to the South Precinct where he will be screened for signs of impairment by a Drug Recognition Officer. He will then be booked into King County Jail for Assault and Property Damage.
