Last night just before 11:00 pm, a 30 year old female was crossing Rainier Avenue South from the west side of the street to the east side at South Forest Street when she was struck by a 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser travelling northbound on Rainier. The Land Cruiser struck the pedestrian causing serious injuries. Seattle Fire and Seattle Police responded to the scene and the woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center. The 46 year old driver of the Toyota, who was not injured, was evaulated at the scene by police for alchol and/or drug use, which is standard procedure. No signs of impairment were detected.
Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded and began their investigation. This remains an active and on-going investigation.
