Seattle Police detectives arrested a man for the neglect death of his mother. The arrest took place one day after what would have been her 90th birthday.
On 10-29-11, patrol officers responded the victim’s home in the 7900 block of M.L. King Jr. Way S on a death investigation. The victim was in the care of her son when she died.
On 11-03-11, the King County Medical Examiners Officer notified State adult care agencies and a SPD Elder Abuse Detective that the victim appeared to have been severely neglected by her caregiver which resulted in her death. The victim’s recent past average body weight was 90 pounds. At death she weighed 58 pounds.
On the evening 11-03-11, detectives and CSI, served a search warrant on the home the victim shared with her caregiver son, the suspect. Evidence at the scene and information developed in the ensuing months revealed a pattern of neglect that led to the victim’s death.
Yesterday, detectives arrested the suspect in front of his house.
The 56-year-old man was booked directly into the King County Jail for Investigation of Manslaughter.
