Vehicle/Pedestrian Collision on Denny Way

A man suspected of driving under the influence hit and injured a pedestrian on Denny Way this morning.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. officers responded to a vehicle/pedestrian collision at Denny Way and Broad Street.  Preliminary investigation indicates that a 36-year-old man was driving his green 1991 Honda Accord eastbound on Denny Way.  At the same time a 69-year-old male pedestrian was crossing Denny Way at Broad Street when he was struck by the Honda.

Fire department medics responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers evaluated the driver of the Honda for signs of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.  Indications of impairment were detected and the driver was placed under arrest and processed for suspicion of DUI.

There were no citations issued at the scene which is standard procedure in serious traffic incidents requiring extensive follow up investigation and collision reconstruction.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
