Good Samaritans kept robber at bay until officers arrived. On 11-04-2012, just shortly before 5:00 p.m., Bike Officers were directed to a disturbance in the 150 block of S Washington St on the North Side of the street. Officers were advised that a man had snatched a woman’s purse and a witness and patrons from the Fuel Bar and Grill were attempting to detain the suspect.
Officers quickly arrived and the suspect was taken in custody. According to the victim, she was sitting on a Metro Bus at 2nd Ext S and S Main St. The suspect reached over her shoulder and attempted to steal a large bag the victim had with her. The victim held on to the bag, and a short struggle over the bag ensued.
The suspect then took the victim’s purse which was inside the bag and fled the bus. A Good Samaritan followed the suspect from the bus and alerted patrons that were on the sidewalk in front of the Fuel Bar and Grill. The witness and patrons stopped the suspect’s flight which allowed officers to move in and take the suspect into custody.
The victim’s purse was located on the ground in front of the business. The victim’s wallet was recovered from inside the suspect’s jacket sleeve. Both items were positively identified by the victim and returned to her.
The suspect had three outstanding Felony warrants for his arrest; two were Felon in Possession of a handgun and one for Felony Theft. The 48-year-old suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of Robbery and his outstanding Felony warrants.
