Car/Pedestrian Collision in South Seattle

A man was struck by a car as he ran across Rainier Avenue South this afternoon, sending him to the hospital.

At approximately 2:02 p.m. officers responded to a car/pedestrian collision in the 7000 block of Rainier Avenue South.  Preliminary investigation indicates that a Toyota Corolla was travelling northbound in the 7000 block of Rainier Avenue South.  About mid-block an adult male pedestrian ran across the street and was struck by the Toyota.

Fire department medics responded to the scene and treated the pedestrian.  He was subsequently transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers evaluated the driver of the Toyota (the sole occupant of the vehicle) for signs of impairment due to alcohol and/or drugs.  No impairment was detected.

There were no citations issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in serious traffic collisions requiring extensive follow up investigation and collision reconstruction.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
