King County Sheriff’s Office and Seattle Police responded to a report of a suspicious device located in the transit tunnel at the Convention Place Station in the 1600 Block of 9th Avenue last night just before 10:00 pm.
Security working inside the tunnel located the suspicious device and notified law enforcement. King County deputies responded and determined that the device appeared credible enough to warrant closing the tunnel. The Seattle Police Arson Bomb Squad was notified and responded to the scene.
The device was rendered safe and removed from the tunnel. Shortly before midnight the tunnel was reopened. This remains an active and on going investigation. King County Sheriff’s Office deputies will increase their patrols in the tunnel.
According to Arson Bomb Squad Sgt. Jim Hansen, “We ask for continued vigilance in the wake of the Boston bombings. Report things that are out of the ordinary and appear suspicious. If you see something, say something.”
