Officers are actively investigating a collision at Boren Avenue and Pike Street involving a Metro bus and a Chevy van that sent three people to the hospital this afternoon.
At approximately 4:45 p.m. officers responded to the intersection of Boren Avenue and Pike Street for the report of a collision between a Metro bus and a Chevy van. Preliminary investigation indicates that the Metro bus was eastbound on Pike Street crossing Boren Avenue on a green light. A gray Chevy van driven by an adult male was traveling northbound downhill on Boren Avenue. According to witnesses, the Chevy van ran a red light and collided into the right front corner area of the Metro bus.
The adult male driver and adult female front seat passenger of the van were transported to Harborview Medical Center by medics with life-threatening injuries. One adult female passenger on the Metro bus was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
There were no citations issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in serious traffic collisions requiring extensive follow up investigation and collision reconstruction.
Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
