Vehicle/Bicycle Collision with Injuries in South Seattle

A 59-year-old male bicyclist was seriously injured after colliding with a Toyota truck in South Seattle this afternoon.  At approximately 1:06 p.m. officers responded to the 2000 block of Lake Washington Boulevard South for the report of a vehicle/bicycle collision.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 59-year-old male bicyclist was travelling south on Lake Washington Boulevard South approaching Lake Park Drive South.  At the same time an adult female driving a silver Toyota Highlander sport-utility vehicle was travelling east on Lake Park Drive South approaching Lake Washington Boulevard South.  The two units collided in the intersection, causing the bicyclist to be ejected from his bicycle and thrown onto the pavement.  The circumstances contributing to the collision remain under active investigation.

Fire department medics responded to the scene and transported the bicyclist to Harborview Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries sustained as a result of the collision.

Officers evaluated the driver of the Toyota for signs of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.  No signs of impairment were detected.  She was interviewed and released from the scene pending further investigation.

There were no citations issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in serious traffic collisions requiring extensive follow up investigation and collision reconstruction.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
