Officers responded to a report of a collision between a Sound Transit train and a pedestrian between 4th Avenue South and 6th Avenue South on South Holgate Street early this morning.
Shortly after 7:00 am officers responded to the location for reports of a collision between the male pedestrian and the train. The first officer arrived and provided first aid and comfort to the male victim while Seattle Fire Medics were enroute to the scene. Once medics arrived, the victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer responded and evaluated the train operator, which is standard procedure in an investigation such as this. The operator showed no sign of impairment, and was released to Sound Transit supervisors.
Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded and took over the investigation. The tracks and South Holgate Street were shut down between 4th and 6th Avenue South for the investigation. The street and tracks were reopened a little after 9:00 am.
This remains an active and on-going TCIS investigation.
