Officers arrested a man who tried to lure a 13-year-old girl into his car. On 6/18/13, officers responded to the 3700 block of S. Angeline St to investigate a child luring incident. When officer arrived the complainant pointed to the suspect’s vehicle, a silver BMW which was parked on the west side of 38 Av S. The complainant pointed to the vehicle and said the man inside tried to lure the 13-year-old victim into his car.
The officer then observed the man get out of the car. The officer noted that the man appeared to be casually walking into the building but did not seem to know where to go to get into the building. The officer contacted the suspect and detained him for further investigation.
Another officer contacted the 13-year-old victim, her mother and the complainant. The complainant is a family friend of the victim’s mother. She stated that she heard the victim scream outside and shortly thereafter the victim was beating on her door, screaming to be let inside. The complainant opened the door for the victim and the girl told her that a man had been following her and tried to get her into his car. The complainant said the little girl was very scared and shaken. The complainant armed herself with a knife while on the phone with 911 and went outside to see the suspect and get a description.
The complainant said that she contacted the suspect and yelled at him for trying to “pick-up” a 13-year-old girl.
The victim told officers that she was walking home from a local community center when she noticed the suspect leering at her from his silver BMW as she walked EB on S. Alaska St towards Rainier Av S. The suspect drove slowly by the victim and continued to leer at her. The victim told the officer that she was afraid the man was going to get out of his car and come after her. The man followed the victim down S. Alaska St (EB) to Rainier Av S. He then honked his horn and flashed his lights at her.
The victim decided to take an alternate route home because she was afraid the man would follow her. However, when she arrived home she saw the suspect’s vehicle parked on the west side of the street near her home. The suspect began yelling out the window to the victim trying to get her to get in his car. The victim then ran to the complainant’s apartment crying and screaming.
Officers placed the suspect under arrest. The suspect stated that he was visiting a friend by the name of “Juan” in unit #12. However, officers contacted the residents in that unit and they stated that they did not know the suspect.
The suspect’s vehicle was impounded to the SPD processing room pending a search warrant by the Special Assualt Unit.
The 31-year-old West Seattle man was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Luring.
