An armed man barricaded himself in his room to avoid eviction. Today just shortly after 1:00 p.m. officers responded to the Aloha Inn in the 1900 block of Aurora Av N to investigate a report of an individual who had barricaded himself in his room with a knife. The 51-year-old man was being evicted from the Aloha Inn due to his disruptive and threatening behavior towards other residents.
The subject barricaded the door from the inside with furniture and would not open the door or speak with officers. A hostage negotiating team (HNT) and CIT responded to assist with the call. SWAT also responded as information was discovered that the subject had assaulted others with a knife in the past.
After prolonged attempts to negotiate with the subject, HNT personnel were able to establish contact with him. He voluntarily exited his apartment at approximately 6:30 p.m. and was subsequently transported via AMR to Harborview Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.
There were no reported injuries.
