Officers arrested a man for stabbing another man in the neck. On 7/24/13, just shortly before 7:00 p.m., bicycle officers were working a Westlake Park emphasis shift when dispatch broadcast a fight disturbance at 1 Ave & Lenora St. The officers responded to the location. While riding into the area, officers were updated that the fight was actually a stabbing and both the suspect and victim were running southbound in the alleyway. An officer arrived in the area and located both parties as they ran southbound in the alley.
Officers stopped and detained the suspect and victim for further investigation. Both subjects were covered in blood when contacted.
Officers observed significant injuries to the victim’s throat. While gruesome in appearance, the cut to the victim’s throat did not appear to have hit any vital areas. SFD medics responded and treated the victim. He was transported to HMC for medical treatment. The victim was uncooperative during the interview. He claimed he sustained the slashing cut from falling on a broken glass bottle. The injuries observed were not consistent with his explanation.
Officers canvassed the area and located witnesses to the incident, along with a knife. The officers were able to establish probable cause to arrest the suspect for felony assault based on the witness statements and physical evidence.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and subsequently booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.
