Driver fled scene of fatality collision and returned to scene by her mother

One woman died another injured in a two car collision this morning. On 10/19/13, just shortly before 4:00 a.m., a black Acura SUV was travelling south on 23rd avenue south in the inside lane.  A silver Saturn was also travelling southbound on 23rd Avenue South, but in the outside lane.

At approximately South King Street, these vehicles collided.  The black Acura veered to the east, went off of the roadway, rolled and subsequently came to rest against a utility pole.  The silver Saturn came to rest against the east curb and due to damage, appeared un-drivable.

The black SUV was occupied by four young female adults.  After the collision, the driver of the SUV as well as one passenger fled on foot.  The other two passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to HMC via medics.  Unfortunately one of these passengers succumbed to her injuries.

All of the occupants of the silver Saturn fled the scene on foot.  Detectives are working on identifying the occupants of this vehicle.

During the on-scene investigation, the driver of the black SUV returned to the collision scene.  She was interviewed by a DRE officer and was transported to Harborview Medical Center (HMC).  She was admitted to the hospital for observation, but will be booked into the King County Jail for Vehicular Homicide and Felony Hit and Run upon her release from HMC.

Both vehicles were transported to the processing room for further investigation by the Traffic Collision Investigators.

The investigation continues.
