Once again, the Seattle Police Department is taking part in its own holiday tradition this year—deploying extra officers on foot, bike and horseback around the city, with a special focus on the downtown core and Pioneer Square.
Extra patrols downtown, which began on Thanksgiving and will continue through the New Year, will be primarily focused between 3rd Avenue and 7th Avenue from Union Street to Olive Way. Downtown businesses will also be supplementing SPD’s increased patrols by hiring uniformed off-duty officers to work busy shopping areas during the holidays.
In addition to increased patrols, the Seattle Police Department and the Seattle Department of Transportation kicked off this year’s holiday season with the 5th Annual City Center Holiday Pedestrian Safety Campaign, which has shown a 37% decrease in traffic collisions in the downtown area over the last four years.
We hope to continue this downward trend and ensure all of you have a safe and happy holiday season!
