Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) were called out last night to investigate a collision scene at Rainier Avenue South and South Willow Street shortly after 9 pm. A Chevy Suburban occupied by a driver and three passengers collided with a telephone pole at that intersection.
The Suburban was travelling northbound on Rainier Avenue South. As it approached the slight curve at South Willow, the vehicle swerved out of control and struck the pole. Two of the occupants, including the driver, sustained serious injuries, while another passenger had minor injuries. All four of the occupants were examined at the scene by Seattle Fire and the three injured people were transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
An officer evaluated the driver for possible impaired driving. TCIS detectives responded, processed the scene, and will handle the follow up investigation.
UPDATE: The 27-year-old driver was later arrested for Investigation of Vehicular Assault.
