Officers Capture Downtown Car-Jacking Suspect in Tukwila

Officers apprehended a man near Boeing Field after he stole a truck downtown, fled from officers, crashed, and then tried to steal other vehicles.

At approximately 1:08 p.m. officers responded to the report of a car-jacking at gunpoint in Pioneer Square. Preliminary investigation indicates that an adult male suspect stole a white Ford pickup truck from its driver at 2nd Avenue South and South King Street after threatening to shoot the driver. The suspect then fled southbound in the vehicle from Pioneer Square.

Officers located the suspect at 4th Avenue South and South Holgate Street and attempted to stop him however, the suspect failed to yield and continued southbound on 4th Avenue South at a high rate of speed. The officers discontinued their pursuit on East Marginal Way South near Boeing Field.

An officer then observed the suspect crash at the intersection of South Boeing Access Road, East Marginal Way South and Tukwila International Boulevard (it was shortly thereafter determined that the suspect had rear-ended a Jeep stopped at the intersection).

After rear-ending the Jeep the suspect fled from the crash scene and tried to car-jack two other drivers stopped at the intersection. He was  unsuccessful. The suspect then fled across the intersection on foot and into the parking lot of a nearby Chevron gas station. Seattle Police officers converged on the scene and took the suspect into custody as he was attempting to enter the gas station store. Thankfully, nobody was injured during this incident.

Sound Transit Police, Tukwila Police and the Washington State Patrol all responded to this incident to assist.

The suspect, a 41-year-old male, was transported to the West Precinct and will be booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery with potential additional charges pending prosecutorial review.

This remains an active and on-going investigation.
