Seattle police arrested a sex offender near Pioneer Square early Monday moments after he attacked a woman on the street.
Just after 4 AM, the victim was returning home from work and was walking to her apartment when the suspect attacked her from behind.
The 37-year-old man grabbed the woman, attempted to rip off her clothes and fled the scene.
A witness called 911 and reported seeing what he believed was a sexual assault, and provided officers with a good description of the suspect.
Police quickly arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect, who they learned is a level 2 registered sex offender. Officers booked the man into the King County Jail for investigation of sexual assault.
Officers consoled the woman and spoke to her about the incident before she was taken to a hospital for injuries suffered during the attack.
Sexual Assault Detectives will be handling the case.
