Gang detectives arrested a 23-year-old felon and seized a handgun early this morning following reports of gunfire in Pioneer Square.
Police initially received 911 reports just after 12:30 AM that a gunman had opened fire in the 100 block of Yesler and fled through Occidental Park. Officers found the suspected gunman, took him into custody, and recovered a handgun.
The man told officers he had fired a single shot after his brother got into an altercation with two other men. Police tried to locate the man’s brother to get his version of events, but he did not stick around to provide officers with his account.
Because the 23-year-old man is a convicted felon, and not legally able to possess a firearm, police arrested him and booked him into the King County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Gang detectives are handling the investigation. No one was injured in the incident.
