Robbery detectives are searching for two armed robbers who opened fire Tuesday evening after mugging several people near the Columbia City Light Rail Station.
A 13-year-old girl and 21 year-old woman had just walked off the light rail at Columbia City Station around 10:15 PM when two masked men ran up behind them in the 5000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. The suspects flashed guns, demanded the victims’ purses, and then fled west on Dawson St.
The suspects then confronted a 50-year-old man—who had also just gotten off the train—as he was walking on Dawson, talking on his cellphone.
One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim and demanded his phone, but the victim—who believed the gun was fake—scolded the suspects for interrupting his phone call, and refused to hand over his phone.
The suspects then ran to a silver vehicle with large chrome rims parked on 30th Ave and Dawson St. One of the suspects fired two shots into the air before both men climbed into the car and sped away.
Officers and robbery detectives responded to the scene, but were unable to find the two suspects.
The victims described the suspects as black males, between 16 and 20 years old, 5’2 to 5’6, wearing hooded sweatshirts. Both men had also pulled their t-shirts up to cover their faces.
No one was injured in the incident.
