Officers Arrest Armed, High Robber After He Tries to Carjack UPS Driver

Police arrested an intoxicated, gun-toting robber on Aurora Avenue Tuesday morning after he tried to commandeer a UPS delivery truck.

After stopping off at a business in the 12000 block of Aurora Avenue N. just before 11 AM, a UPS driver walked back to her truck and found a man, apparently under the influence of narcotics, sitting in the driver’s seat.

Although the UPS driver was carrying the keys to her truck, the suspect was shaking the truck’s steering wheel, as if he were trying to drive away.

When the UPS driver attempted to escort the suspect out of the truck, the man took several swings at her, striking her in the forearm. The man then threatened to shoot the driver, who saw a gun inside one of the three bags the suspect was carrying.

Police responded to the scene, grabbed the gun from the 32-year-old suspect’s backpack and took him into custody.  Officers found the man was also carrying a second gun in one of his bags, along with tools commonly used by burglars, and a small safe.

Officers booked the man into the King County Jail for robbery, assault and harassment.
