Officers arrested a robber in Pioneer Square after he viciously assaulted a woman and attempted to steal her cell phone Tuesday evening.
The victim was hurriedly walking down 3rd Avenue just after 5 PM on her way to catch a train when she noticed a shirtless man walking toward her near Yesler Way.
The shirtless suspect approached the woman from behind, stuck his hand inside her pants, and repeatedly punched her in the head. The suspect then attempted to take the woman’s phone, but she was able to fend him off.
Several bystanders pounced on the suspect and held him down until officers arrived and took him into custody. The victim was not seriously injured in the attack.
Officers booked the man—who appeared to be high on drugs—into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery and indecent liberties.
