Police Arrest Suspect in 2011 Dismemberment Murder

Officers on Monday arrested a 59-year-old man suspected of murdering Donald Meyer in 2011 and dismembering his body.

Forensic evidence linked Scott Halfhill of Seattle to the murder. Prosecutors issued a warrant for his arrest on Friday.

A patrol officer spotted Halfhill’s car Monday night and staked it out until the suspect returned to the vehicle. He was arrested without incident.

Meyer, a father and guitar player, lived quietly at a Ballard apartment with his cat, mostly keeping to himself. His family last saw him on June 16, 2011. Three weeks later, police found some of Don’s remains on a conveyor belt at a recycling center and at a Eastlake greenbelt.

SPD detectives worked closely with King County Prosecutors for nearly three and a half years on the case. Technicians at the Washington State Crime Lab assisted as well.

Detectives interviewed Halfhill following his arrest and booked him into King County Jail on investigation of murder.
