Officers are investigating after a woman showed up at Harborview Medical Center with a suspected gunshot wound to the head early Sunday morning.
A car sped to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) just after 2:30 AM Sunday with a shattered back window. The woman had cuts on her scalp from the broken glass. After examining the women, hospital officials called 911 to report that her wounds were possibly from a bullet.
Officers arrived at the hospital moments later and found the injured woman’s friends still at HMC. The friends told officers they were in the 3000 block of Beacon Ave. S. minutes earlier when they saw two men fighting. They stopped the car to watch the fight when one of the fighters retrieved a gun from another car. The armed man fired one round at the unarmed fighter, but the bullet struck the car of spectators. The bullet went through the back window causing the lacerations to the female victim. The car of spectators fled the area and rushed their friend to the hospital. The woman remained at the hospital with non-life threatening lacerations to her scalp.
Officers scoured the area where the victims claimed to have been and found a single shell casing in the street and a car covered in blood. Officers impounded the victim’s friend’s vehicle and the blood covered car for further investigation. If you have any information please call the Homicide/Assault Tip Line at (206)233-5000.
