A 22-year-old man botched a burglary at a First Hill apartment building Monday night and then botched his getaway, after he stopped near the scene of the crime to sign his sub-par criminal handiwork, like some terrible Batman villain.
Witnesses called police just after 10 PM when they saw the 22-year-old man trying to force his way into a secured bike room of an apartment building in the 1000 block of Union St. Officers arrived and found a damaged door, but no suspect.
As Officer John Chesney searched the area, he found the suspect had stopped to tag a concrete pillar, less than a block from the scene of the burglary, and arrested him. Officers found the man was carrying meth, heroin and a number of house and car keys, and booked him into the King County Jail.
