Car Prowl Victim Helps Cops Catch Prolific Thief In Brighton

A car prowl victim helped police catch a prolific thief Monday in the Brighton neighborhood after spotting the man prowling his work van for the second time in two days.

The victim was working at a home in the 4400 block of South Eddy Street around 2 PM when he saw the 42-year-old suspect walking down a gated driveway toward the van. The victim recognized the suspect as the same man who had prowled his van a day earlier, and went to confront him.

When the victim approached the suspect—who was rummaging through the van once again—the 42-year-old man leapt at the victim and tackled him to the ground. The victim was able to gain the upper hand and hold the suspect down as a witness called police.

The suspect pulled a knife out of his pocket during the struggle, but the victim informed him he would face serious bodily harm if he didn’t put it away. The suspect complied and put the weapon back in his pocket.

Officers arrived and arrested the suspect, who was wanted on numerous felony warrants for burglary, three counts of firearm theft and three counts of unlawful possession of firearms. Police booked him into the King County Jail for robbery and the warrants.
